LOS ANGELES (March 28, 2019) – Two University of California system workers have filed a federal lawsuit alleging union dues were illegally deducted from their paychecks.
LOS ANGELES (March 28, 2019) – Two University of California system workers have filed a federal lawsuit alleging union dues were illegally deducted from their paychecks.
Attorneys for Mark Janus, plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME, have asked a federal appeals court to order a refund union fees he was forced to pay while he worked for Illinois state government.
A caseworker for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and four Lebanon County mental health workers are suing their employers and unions for illegally deducting thousands of dollars in union dues from their paychecks.
Patricia Grossman, an employee of the University of Hawaii at Hilo for over 30 years, filed a lawsuit against the University and the Hawaii Government Employees Association for violating her First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of association. The University and HGEA refuse to allow her to resign union membership. Grossman is represented by attorneys from the Liberty Justice Center and the complaint is filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii.
Illinois school district employee Erich Mandel has filed a lawsuit against his government union, SEIU Local 73 and Community Consolidated School District 15 for violating his First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of association. Mandel is represented by attorneys from the Liberty Justice Center and the complaint is filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
New Mexico state employee Brett Hendrickson has filed a lawsuit against his government union, AFSCME, and the state of New Mexico for violating his First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of association. Hendrickson is represented by attorneys from the Liberty Justice Center and the complaint is filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico.
Special education teacher Thomas Few has filed a lawsuit against the United Teachers of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District for violating his First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of association. Few is represented by attorneys from the Liberty Justice Center and the California Policy Center and the complaint is filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
