Bloomberg: Liberty Justice Center Asks Four States to Stop Collecting Union Fees.

Cease-and-desist letters are in the mail to four states without right-to-work laws demanding an immediate halt to the deduction of union fees from the paychecks of government workers.

Liberty Justice Center, the public-interest law firm that sent the letters, declined to name the states. The firm prevailed in the U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME that put an end to collecting “fair share” fees from nonunion public employees.

Center Vice President Diana Rickert told Bloomberg Law Aug. 29 that the language of the letters is identical to letters sent August 24 to Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington. She said letters to four additional states without right-to-work laws are being drafted and would be mailed soon.

The letters say that previous authorizations for the deduction of fees “were based on a choice the Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional.”
